Land Use

Did you know that Fayette County has a Comprehensive Land Use Plan? Although the plan was completed in 1995 it needs to be updated and should include what the citizens of Fayette County want, not what some consultants think. That’s why the County Commissioners have joined with OSU Extension Fayette County to work on developing a Comprehensive Land Use Plan that reflects the needs and wants of the citizens of Fayette County.
Some of the citizens of Fayette County have started to look at the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and what needs to be included in the Plan. Members of this group are willing to serve as co-chairpersons of committees and need your help.
The committees are 1) Agriculture/Rural, 2) Schools/Education, 3) Social/ Recreation, 4) Housing, 5) Natural Resources, 6) Health & Safety Services, 7) Infrastructure/Transportation, and 8) Economic/Industrial. If you are interested or have knowledge in one of these committees please volunteer.
As the Land Use Commission looked at what was in a land use plan they worked on a vision statement and from that saw a need to examine certain areas. They may revise the vision, but this is what they have now: “A community that preserves it’s agricultural heritage and provides for economic and industrial growth through sound infrastructure, suitable housing, up-to-date schools and modern social, cultural, and recreational facilities while respecting our natural resources.” From this vision statement you can pick out the different areas that will be examined by committees to look at how things have changed in the past, how things are now, and what is the desired future for this land use in the county. Meetings will be open to the public to attend.
Information and reports about these meetings will be available to the public. Articles about what the committees report and their reports will be available on our OSU Extension Fayette County web site http://fayette.osu.edu under Community Development.
Please email or call and volunteer to help work on the making this Comprehensive Land Use Plan what you want Fayette County to be in the future.
