Farmer's Market

Every Saturday 9-12 from June until September the Farmers Market is a place where gardeners can sell their harvest and crafts etc. Our committee takes turns opening and closing the event and promoting the Master Gardeners with brochures, newsletters, and door prizes. The Master Gardeners oversee the event and advertise it.

The Court House project

Downtown is beautified by the FCMG’s major project of designing, planting, and maintaining the Fayette County Court House. There are 6 square beds, around the fountain and two memorials that we plant. Every week someone signs up to maintain the annuals by watering and weeding. The chairman coordinates the color theme and watering, and the watering key is kept at the Extension Office.

Sponsor-a-pot

Local businesses and individuals sponsor a pot for $85 that is designed & planted by this committee. Signs are posted in the pots with the sponsors name and the pots are placed on prominent downtown corners. This adds a lot of color and beauty to Washington Court House. The city waters the pots. This year Stephanie Spielman Fund was donated over $300 from this project. Fayette County Master Gardener Volunteers created pink ribbons to place in the pots. Awareness for breast cancer research was our goal. Don’t they just pop!

The Museum

Every year the FCMG design and plant the annuals in front of the Fayette County Museum. This project also involves us in an annual plant swap and Arbor Day celebration. We do not maintain the beds but do take the annuals out at the end of the season. This is making downtown more welcoming and colorful.

Washington Cemetery

The Washington Cemetery has some very historic and beautiful landmarks. The FCMG’s help maintain the landscape around the office and a wildflower garden near the walking trail. This committee adds plants when necessary, trims, weeds etc.

Agriculture Center/Extension office

Master Gardeners work hard to maintain the Extension Office landscaping and raised beds. The committee designed the landscape a few years back and now new items are added when possible. This year the committee added a few perennials and bulbs for the spring. The jobs include weeding, mulching, fertilizing, planting and planning.

Public Relations committee

The PR Committee was formed in winter 2007 to help promote awareness of Master Gardener activities in the community and stimulate interest in gardening. The activities to date have been well supported by a number of master gardeners.
