Teen Opportunities 

Buckeye Leadership Workshop - A great camp for people ages 15-91.  This powerful sharing 'workshop' is for anyone who works with people and/or develops programming for youth or adults

  • Complete 'BLW registration' form
  • Must be at least 15 years old or high school freshman and older
  • Scholarships available (due:  January 6, 2020)
  • March 25-29 at Recreation Unlimited, Ashley, OH
  • Registration due:  February 19 (early registration $350) (after 2/20 $375 space permitting)

 

International Programs & Exchanges -Looking for 4-H families with youth ages 10-15 to serve as a host sibling for Japanese youth (ages 12-14) annually.  Outbound travel opportunities vary annually with expanded information available online

 

Ohio 4-H Conference-Day-long conference provides teens with educational sessions pertaining to 4-H projects, 4-H opportunities, leadership development and current events.

  • Contact Fayette County Extension Office to register by February 1
  • All teens welcome

Ohio Youth Capital Challenge-Youth from across the state learn how to make their voices heard in government and make a difference.

     *Held in 3 phases:

  1. March in downtown Columbus and Capital
  2. Work in teams in local communities
  3. Competitions (May and July/August)
  • Open to high school youth in 4-H, FFA or Ohio Farm Bureau
  • 40 teens selected
  • Due November 30
  • Phase 1:  March 5-6
  • Competition 1:  May 18

Ohio 4-H Fashion Board - Youth involved in textiles and clothing projects.

     *State Fashion Board members:

  1. Assist in Ohio State Fair 4-H Fashion Revue
  2. Assist with educational programming efforts related to textiles and clothing at county, regional, and state-wide events
  3. Serve as an advocate for Ohio's 4-H textiles and clothing projects and programs
  • Complete State Fashion Board application and an interview at the Ohio State Fair
  • Up to 20 applicants selected across the state, nominated by county (1 per county)
  • Due:  at the time of registration the day the applicant competes in the State Fashion Revue at the Ohio State Fair
  • 1-year term - Meets throughout the year

1.  Ohio 4-H State Achievement Awards

     These awards recognize 4-H member's achievements in a specific area.  Areas:  Beef, CARTEENS, Citizenship & Community Service, Clothing & Textiles, Companion Animals, Dairy, Dairy Goat, Environmental Sciences, Family Life & Child Development, Foods &   Nutrition, Gardening & Horticulture, Health & Safety, Horse, Leadership, Meat Goat, Mechanical Engineering Sciences, Personal Development, Photography, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Shooting Sports, Swine, Woodworking and Veterinary Science

  • Complete the 2019 Achievement Form
  • Must be 14 years old (as of January 1) and a current 4-H member
  • Due:  January 15
  • Winners receive a paid trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia in November

2.  Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF)

     Through sightseeing tours of Washington D.C. and hands-on educational workshops, you will learn about the history of our nation, the leaders who shaped it and how you can apply the leadership and citizenship skills.  Meet 4-Hers from all over the United States!

  • Complete the 2020 Achievement Form
  • Must be 14 years old (as of January 1) and a current 4-H member
  • Award trip paid by 4-H Committee & Senior Fair Board ($1300 value)
  • June 21-27 at the National 4-H Center, Chevy Chase, MD
  • Due:  January 15

   

3.  Leadership Washington Focus (LWF)

     Using the historical backdrop of Washington D.C., you will build confidence in your ability to motivate and direct others in meaningful action, practice effective communication, create and accomplish goals and develop an understanding of your own personal leadership style.  (similar to CWF, for younger participants)

  • Complete the 2020 Achievement Form
  • Must be in grades 7th-9th and current 4-H member
  • Award trip paid by 4-H Committee & Senior Fair Board ($850 value)
  • July 27-31 at the National 4-H Center, Chevy Chase, MD
  • Due:  January 15

 

4.  National 4-H Dairy Conference

     Event provides delegates with an opportunity to learn more about the dairy industry, observe new dairy industry developments and be recognized for their achievements in the area of dairy cows

  • Complete the 2020 Achievement Form
  • Must be at least 14 years old (as of January 1) and current 4-H member
  • Conference held September/October
  • Due:  January 15

 

5.  Camp Canopy (Forestry Camp)

     Learn first-hand about Ohio's forest and natural resources.  Explore the outdoors - tree ID, silviculture, ecology and forest projects

  • Complete the 2020 Achievement Form
  • Must be at least 14 years old (as of January 1) and current 4-H member
  • Award trip paid by 4-H Committee & Senior Fair Board ($375 value)
  • June 14-19 at FFA Camp, Muskingum, Carroll County
  • Due January 15

 

6.  State 4-H Leadership Camp

     The premiere leadership development opportunity available to Ohio 4-H members.  Develop concrete peer leadership skills that will enable you to have an immediate impact in your home 4-H club, county, community or school

  • Complete the 2020 Achievement Form
  • Must be at least 14 years old (as of January 1) and current 4-H member
  • Award trip paid by 4-H Committee & Senior Fair Board ($280 value)
  • June 5-10 at 4-H Camp Ohio
  • Teens may also apply as counselors (application due May 1, must be 18 years old or older)
  • Due:  January 15

STATEWIDE 

7.  Ohio State Junior Fair Board

     Members help strengthen and coordinate State Fair activities at the Ohio State Fair.  State JFB members are expected to attend meetings and stay at the state fair for the entire 12 days.  Comprised of outstanding individuals from each of the youth organizations represented at the Ohio State Fair, this group helps coordinate State Fair activities.

  • Must be at least 16 years old (as of January 1) and current 4-H member
  • applicants selected yearly
  • 2-year term
  • Due:  January 15

 

8.  Ohio Township Association 4-H Local Government Award

     To encourage and inspire 4-H teens to become responsible citizens who are involved in local government.  Award is designed to reinforce the importance of having youth become contributing citizens in their communities.

  • Winners notified after March 20 - (2) $1500 awards
  • Complete 2020 Achievement Form
  • Must be seniors; have completed a 4-H local government activity; and plane to attend college
  • Due:  January 15

 

Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council (TLC)- Statewide group of 4-H teens and young 4-H alumni that provides a youth stakeholder perspective in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Ohio 4-H programming.  In the process, council members develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and aspirations needed for future success

  • Complete TLC application
  • Must be 14-18 years old (as of January 1) Individuals apply for white, green, silver, gold or platinum level of involvement
  • Due:  Friday following the Ohio State Fair
  • 1-year term beginning in September
  • 4-8 face-to-face meetings/conference calls, self-led group tasks
